Islamic rulings on fasting during menstruation and postpartum

Islamic rulings on fasting, purity, and daily conduct during menstruation and postpartum.

🌙 Islamic Rulings on Fasting During Menstruation & Postpartum

If a woman becomes pure before completing the full ten days, and there is not enough time left at night to say "Allahu Akbar" once, the fast is still obligatory. If she becomes pure within a short time, she should perform ablution before Fajr, wear clothes, and say "Allahu Akbar"; the fast becomes obligatory. If she bathes, it is better; otherwise, she should intend the fast and complete it after bathing. If there is not enough time for the fast, she must act like a fasting person, avoiding anything that invalidates the fast.

🕌 If Menstruation or Postpartum Begins During Fasting

If menstruation or postpartum bleeding begins while fasting, the fast is invalidated. Qadha is required. Qadha of obligatory fasts is obligatory, and qadha of voluntary fasts is also obligatory. (Al-Amiri, etc.)

🍽 Choice During Menstruation or Postpartum

🕊 Qadha After Purity

🛌 Being Pure While Sleeping

If a woman was pure while sleeping and notices menstruation in the morning, the ruling applies from that moment. If she missed the Isha prayer, qadha becomes obligatory.

💧 Purity Since Night

If no signs of menstruation appear upon waking up, she is considered pure from the night and should bathe before performing the Isha prayer. (Dar al-Mukhtar)

❌ Sexual Intercourse Prohibited

🙅‍♀️ No Touching From Navel to Knees

It is not allowed for the husband to touch her body from the navel to the knees, whether with desire or without, unless there is clothing and no body heat is felt through it. (Dar al-Mukhtar)

Touching above the navel or below the knees, or deriving benefit, is allowed. Kissing and gentle contact are permitted. (Dar al-Mukhtar)

🛏 Eating, Drinking, Sleeping Together

She may eat with her husband and sleep on the same bed, but unnecessary closeness is disliked. If passion dominates, avoid sleeping together. (Dar al-Mukhtar, Bahar Shariat)

💦 Intimacy After Purity

If menstruation ended after ten days, intimacy is allowed immediately, though bathing is recommended. If less than ten days, intimacy is allowed only after bathing or after the prayer time passes. (Al-Amiri)

⏳ Menstruation Ends Before Cycle Completes

If menstruation ends before completing the usual days, she should bathe and start prayer, but wait one day before intimacy. (Al-Amiri)

🛐 Tayammum Rule

If unable to use water and tayammum is performed, intimacy is not allowed until prayer is performed. After praying, if water becomes available but she did not bathe, intimacy remains allowed. (Dar al-Mukhtar)

🙈 Concealing or Showing Menstruation

It is not permissible to hide menstruation from the husband or to falsely show oneself as menstruating. (Maraqi Al-Falah)

🩺 Postpartum Rules

All menstruation rules apply to postpartum bleeding. (Dar al-Mukhtar)

📿 Prayer During Childbirth

If less than half of the baby is born and prayer time approaches, she should perform prayer as much as possible. If standing, bowing, or prostration is not possible, gestures can be used.
